October Report: Google Trends for Subscription Boxes

Google Trends October 2015

I’ve received some recent inquires about the “life span and lifecycle” of the concept of subscription boxes. It’s a good line of thought, and I wanted to show some easy ways to not only search keywords, but also better understand the growth and direction of the industry.

The way to check this out is super simple: just head over to Google TrendsThis link should auto-add the search terms “Subscription Box” and “Subscription Boxes” to your query.

 >> Before you search: I suggest you get familiar with Google Trends. Frankly, Chelsea Adam’s write up of the tool is better put and more concise than what I would have produced, so I suggest reading this first. It will help you understand exactly how to interpret Google Trends.

Google Trends wasn’t built to hand over static keyword volume; it was built to generate visual, dynamic insights that paint a portrait of the life of a keyword phrase – past, present, and potentially (as much as we can predict it) future.

A few things pop out:

  • Overall, the UK  leads in search interest for ‘subscription box.’ Keep in mind this is for the entire period (2004-2015).
  • The US, Canada, Australia, and India close the top 5. A few months back, Amir at Cratejoy posted a similar post about this.

You can also sort by cities. If you’re thinking about geo-targeting ads, consider drilling down on these.

Below this, you’ll find related searches. If you’re aiming to get your site keyword rich, these are the terms you’ll want to keep in mind:
